Day trip to Looe in Cornwall

Looe, CornwallA family day trip to Looe will normally begin in West Looe, where you will find a large car park for visitors.

In the warmer months, you will find Pedalo boats and an amusement arcade around the car park, as well as a children’s park and a collection of shops.

Even crossing the bridge which spans the river that divides the twin towns of East and West Looe, there are photo opportunities of the wonderful views from this vantage point.

The bustling streets of East Looe cater for the visitor’s food, drink and shopping needs, running all the way through to the seafront itself.  You can also walk alongside the river, passing by Looe’s busy working fish market.  Along here, many families enjoy a successful day’s crabbing, whilst watching the little boats bobbing in the harbour – all you need is a line and a bucket!  Or take a boat trip from here – perhaps to fish for mackerel (consider booking ahead for this type of activity – ask us for more information) or to see if you can spot a dolphin or a seal in the waters off the coast.

The seafront itself boasts a lovely, safe, sandy beach for playing, sunbathing, paddling, rock pooling and swimming.  There are many useful facilities just behind the beach (which makes this a great location for families with young children), so don’t worry if you’re not completely prepared.

On the other side of the river (accessible by car, foot or by taking a boat across from the Looe IslandEast, is West Looe.  Keep going as far as you can and you will reach Hannafore Point, which offers a pretty little area with a pebble-stone beach and lots of interesting rock pools, as well as a stunning view of Looe Island from here.  Walkers can start (or continue!) from here, walking along the South West Coast Path to Polperro.

For those visiting in 2013, two-Michelin-Starred chef, Nathan Outlaw’s ‘Outlaw’s Fish Kitchen’ will offer a relaxed, high quality dining experience in Looe.  We can’t wait!

Looe is just a little over 10 miles from Crylla Valley Cottages.
