Children will love Whitsand Bay
Whitsand bay in SE Cornwall is a large sandy beach which seems to go on forever. Whitsand is surrounded by cliffs; if it is views you are looking for they don’t come much more dramatic than here.
Whitsand runs from Rame Head in the East to Portwrinkle in the West and is only 24 miles from Plymouth.
It has sheer high cliffs, great scenery and 4 miles of perfect sandy beaches. The South West Coastal Path runs the length of the bay.
All that beach means lots of fun for all the family including those with 4 legs!
Popular for surfing as well as holiday makers, it does have dangerous rip currents. Life guards are in operation from May until September.
Over towards Polhawn Cove on the Rame Head side of the Bay, is a Cornish Shipwreck.
All that is left of the Emma Christ is her rusting boiler half buried in the sand, how exciting for children to see their first shipwreck! This is a good place for families as the sea is usually sheltered by the Rame Peninsula. It’s a lovely part of the bay, even if the climb back up is a bit of an effort it’s worth it.
