Day Trip to Burrator Reservoir, Devon
If you’re staying in our holiday cottages in Cornwall, we aren’t far at all from the Tamar Bridge and the border of Devon where you can easily head for Dartmoor National Park. One of the most beautiful and accessible destinations on Dartmoor is Burrator Reservoir, near Yelverton.
What to do at Burrator Reservoir
Roads, walkways and bridleways around Burrator are unusually flat for Devon. This makes it an excellent place for anyone wanting to walk, cycle and ride a horse. If you wanted to complete a full circuit of the reservoir, it is approximately 3.5 miles and will take 2 hours to walk.
For those with a curiosity for the past, Burrator was completed in 1898, expanded in 1929 and is a site of real historic interest.
What’s more, anyone looking to enjoy bank fishing can buy a permit from the garage at Yelverton.
However, a day spent at Burrator doesn’t have to involve any particular planned activity at all. In and around the reservoir, cross over or paddle in pretty streams, play on rope swings, lie back on carpets of grass and picnic in leafy clearings.
Finally, how about finishing your visit to the reservoir with drinks or a meal at nearby Burrator Inn, (included in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide 2013)?
Enjoy your day trip, wherever it takes you!
