Crylla holiday cottagesCornwall and Devon may seem the perfect summer holiday destination but why not spend Christmas and the New Year here as well.  There are always plenty of attractions and activities and here we aim to share just a few of the many ideas so you can make the most of your break.

Crylla holiday cottages are based just over the border from Devon, ideally situated for popping into Plymouth for those last minute presents. Drakes Circus shopping centre has plenty of parking and is full of all the high street names.  With your shopping all done then just enjoy Plymouth’s Winter Festival which is bigger and better than ever this year there are lots of events taking place in the city centre and at the waterfront.   The historic Barbican always has something to offer with its wide variety of shops.  Maybe a drink or dinner by the water takes your fancy there are many restaurants and bars to choose from.

Winter at Moune Edgcumbe HouseWhy not take a look at some of the beautiful historic houses and glorious gardens that the South West has to offer including medieval Cotehele House – take a look at their famous 60 foot garland running the length of the hall, Buckland Abbey – the home of Sir Frances Drake and magnificent Mount Edgcumbe.  All of these are very close to us here at Crylla you should be able to get any of them within 30 minutes.

You will find lots of interesting villages and bustling country towns all with their own individual charm and special Christmas events at this time of year.  The picturesque villages of Looe and Polperro always worth a visit, with the Christmas lights on looking better than ever.  Take home or sample locally produced food and drink when you visit the Farmers Markets at Tavistock market, Stoke Climsland and Callington.  We have Liskeard a few miles away from us one of the 12 pilot towns given a makeover by Mary Portas.  It has a wide variety of shops services and amenities, many of them specialising in unique local products.  Christmas at the Eden Projectl

The Eden Project the perfect place to celebrate and add some sparkle to your winter.  Open late with a whole range of festive treats, Father Christmas will be there along with real reindeer, lantern parades and ice skating.

View taken from the South West Coastal Path

There is of course great walking with endless beaches that promise to be quiet at this time of year and always the South West Coastal path with its breath-taking scenery.

More than a Garden Centre

Endsleigh Garden centre is right on the A38 Plymouth bound side, again very easy to get to from Crylla.  Well worth a visit the Christmas shop has lots of goodies plus Father Christmas.  There is also a play area outside for the children and a great cafe.  It is more than just a garden centre and during the festive season looks very magical.

The list of special places to visit is endless so too are the Christmas activities.  Why not come and see for yourself all that Devon and Cornwall have to offer over the festive season and really enjoy Christmas.
