FREE Things to do in South East Cornwall

Cornwall, a gorgeous county in the southwest of England, is well-known for its stunning coastline, extensive history, and charming towns. Even though there are a lot of paid attractions in the region, it’s still possible to have a nice day out with minimal spending. We’ll look at some of southeast Cornwall’s top free activities in this post.

  1. Walk the Southwest Coast Path

Walking along the Southwest Coast Path is one of the greatest ways to discover southeast Cornwall. Some of the most spectacular views in the country can be found along the 630-mile path, which follows the coastlines of Cornwall, Devon, Somerset, Dorset, and Hampshire. The walk in southeast Cornwall offers breath-taking views of the coastline as it passes through the picturesque villages of Polperro and Looe.

  1. Visit the Eden Project

One of Cornwall’s most visited attractions, the Eden Project charges a ticket to access the biomes, but the outdoor gardens are completely free. There are numerous themed gardens to explore in the grounds, including a Mediterranean garden, a South African garden, and a Rainforest Garden. The gardens are home to a diverse assortment of plants from all over the world.

  1. Explore the Lost Gardens of Heligan

Southeast Cornwall’s Lost Gardens of Heligan are yet another must-visit destination. After being forgotten for many years, the gardens were rediscovered in the 1990s and have since been exquisitely restored to their former glory. Although there is a cost to access the gardens, a limited area is available for free exploration.

  1. Visit Polperro

A day spent touring the fishing village of Polperro is enchanting. Since there are no cars allowed in the village, you must park in the lot at the top of the hill and then descend to the harbour. Once there, you can enjoy a boat ride down the coast, explore the winding lanes lined with brightly painted houses, or go to the Polperro History Museum.

  1. Explore the Whitsand Bay Area

Some of Cornwall’s most stunning beaches can be found in the Whitsand Bay area and visiting them is completely free. Tregantle Beach, Freathy Beach, and Sharrow Beach are just a few of the beaches available, and they all provide breath taking views of the sea and the coastline.

  1. Visit the National Maritime Museum Cornwall

The National Maritime Museum in Cornwall charges an entrance fee, but there is a small area that is free to see. A variety of exhibits, including a collection of boats and ships, interactive displays, and kid-friendly activities, are housed in the museum and highlight Cornwall’s rich nautical history.

  1. Explore Fowey

Another fantastic location to spend a day visiting is the ancient town of Fowey. A variety of independent stores, cafes, and restaurants can be found in the town, which is located along the banks of the River Fowey. You can stroll along the riverbank, wander the winding lanes dotted with brightly painted cottages, or go to St. Catherine’s Castle for awe-inspiring views of the city and the ocean.

In summary, southeast Cornwall has a variety of free activities available, like strolling along breath taking coastal walks and discovering quaint villages. You can have a blast in Cornwall on a budget by taking advantage of these free or low cost activities.
